Lean-to Pergolas Gloucestershire

Lean-To / Attached Pergolas

A lean-to pergola attaches directly to the wall of your house or garage, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor transition. Ideal for patio areas, decking runs, or linking your home to a garden building. We ensure all fixings are correctly anchored and weather-sealed.

Why Choose a Timber Pergola?

A well-built timber pergola adds genuine value to your property, provides a practical outdoor living area, and gives your garden a professional, finished appearance. Unlike flat-pack garden centre options, a properly constructed pergola is built to last — using structural-grade timber, correctly footed posts, and weatherproof fixings that won’t fail after a year.

GT Fencing & Groundworks builds every pergola from scratch, to the dimensions and specification that suit your garden — not a standard-size kit.

Pergola FAQs

A: Pergola costs depend on size, timber type, and roof specification. A standard freestanding timber pergola typically ranges from £1,500 to £4,000 fitted. More complex structures with solid roofing, integrated lighting, or premium hardwood will cost more. We provide free, detailed written quotes — call 07717 389275 to arrange a visit.

A: Most pergolas are classed as permitted development and do not require planning permission, provided they are not more than 4 metres in height and cover less than 50% of the garden area (outside the footprint of the house). Lean-to pergolas attached to the house may be treated differently. If you’re in a conservation area or on a new-build estate with planning conditions, check with your local authority. We’ll advise during our site visit if anything looks unusual.

A: A standard freestanding pergola typically takes one to two days to install. More complex structures may take longer, and we’ll agree a timeline with you at the quotation stage.

A: We primarily use pressure-treated softwood, which provides excellent durability and weather resistance. For premium projects we can source hardwood (such as oak or iroko) which gives a superior finish and is naturally more durable.

A: Absolutely — a pergola over a decked area is one of the most popular garden combinations we install. We’ll design the two elements to work together structurally, with the pergola posts footed into the deck frame or ground below as appropriate.

A: We install pergolas and garden structures across all of Gloucestershire, including Cam, Dursley, Stroud, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Wotton-under-Edge, Nailsworth, Tetbury, the Cotswolds, and the Forest of Dean.
